GM Super Cruise Frequently Asked Questions
What is Super Cruise?Super Cruise is a hands-free driving assistance system developed by General Motors. It uses LiDAR mapping, GPS, cameras, and radars to detect your vehicle position and then allow you to remove your hands from the wheel while the system guides the steering.
How Does Super Cruise Work?Super Cruise builds off of the functionality of adaptive cruise control, combining it with lane centering, lane tracing, following distance monitoring, and your vehicle's driver attention monitoring. Together these systems help keep your vehicle centered in the lane and at a safe distance from other vehicles.
Is Super Cruise Truly Hands-Free?Yes. Super Cruise was the first truly hands-free driving system in the world. You can truly remove your hands from the wheel and take your feet off the brake and the driving system will continue to operate as long as you remain on compatible roads.
Can I Use Super Cruise on Any Road? There are currently more than 240 million miles of compatible roadways in the United States and Canada, and efforts to extend the Super Cruise network are continuous. However, not all roads are authorized for use with Super Cruise. Currently, most divided highways with clearly marked lanes are within the Super Cruise network. In the Lebanon, TN area Route 70 and Interstate 40 are the two largest Super Cruise-enabled roadways.
What Will Happen If I’m Not Paying Attention While Using Super Cruise? If the Driver Monitoring System detects that you are not paying attention to the road. You will receive three escalating alerts, prompting you to return your attention to the road. If for some reason you are unable to do so, the system with slow your vehicle to a stop, Super Cruise will disengage, and OnStar will be contacted to ensure that you are safe.
